First CE certification for UV Smart

19/10/2022

The first device with validated UV technology disinfection from the Delft MedTech start-up UV Smart, the D25, received CE certification today.

The basis for this certification was scientific research and technical descriptions of this device for effective and fast UV disinfection of medical instruments and equipment in healthcare. The D25 has been awarded class IIa medical CE certification. "The CE mark supports the introduction of this new method in care centres and hospitals to minimise the spread of micro-organisms and create a safer care environment" states Daan Hoek, one of the founders of UV Smart.

"The next milestone is inclusion in the protocols and recommendations of, for example, the RIVM and medical professional organisations. To this end, a considerable amount of scientific and clinical research has already been completed. We are doing everything we can to get the necessary assessment higher on the agenda at the RIVM, which, after all, has a central position in this. Meanwhile, we continue to invest in R&D into the possibilities of UV technology disinfection".

In our country, the Radboudumc, Spaarne Gasthuis, LUMC, Alrijne Ziekenhuis, Martini Ziekenhuis and Zonnehuisgroep Amstelland, among others, have already started using this innovative disinfection equipment. In order to meet the increased international demand, UV Smart - which is now also ISO 13485 certified - has recently scaled up production.
